Project Case Studies

Here are the real world projects we will be discussing in this session:

Norfolk  Clothing is a retail chain store in USA. Norfolk is worth approximately $3 billion dollars with over 9 million active customers.

Norfolk  has a retail visa card they offer to their customers so they can shop at Norfolk stores. Today the customer can apply for the retail visa card and if approved they are enrolled in the system and sent an email with links to create their username and password. This process today is slow as it requires  Norfolk employee to create the users in the system and the customer has to wait at least 48 hours to be able to access their account.

To improve this process the leadership at Norfolk have funded a project to allow users to enroll themselves once they have been approved for the visa retail card.

Once the credit card  is approved the customer will exist in the core banking system Fiserv.  Applications that are not approved will not be in the core banking system. So far the leadership has agreed that In order to self enroll,  customer will need to do the following:

  • Enter their last name, date of birth, phone number and last 4 digits of their credit card number
  • If a  match is found in Fiserv, then send the customer a one time passcode to their mobile phone number or email address  on record
  • If the user is able to enter that one time code correctly, then allow the user to create a username and password
  • The user can then login to see their account detail when they enter the correct credentials

Norfolk  wants to  create this self  enrollment flow  with these changes. This project  scope will only be handling self enrollment after the card is approved. Approval for the card is a separate process that already exists and is out of scope for this project.

The project will consist of a project owner, 2 backend engineers, 1 front end engineer, 1 quality engineer. Development is scheduled to start on June 17th and Go – Live by August 19th 2024
