IT careers with little or no programming

Business Analyst

Being a business analyst is awesome! This is actually my personal favorite ( never mind I work as a business analyst right now -lol!).

Business analysis is a great career an alternative for people with technology degrees that do not want to code. It is just such a fulfilling career for me personally. A business analyst in IT is the person who will elicit the needs from the business users and translate them in a way that the developers can use to write code. Business analyst use tools and techniques to provide value to the project and business stakeholders.

Find out more about business analysis in this article. The business analyst career is great for those already with a computer science degree because you already have the technical background that will help you communicate with the developers easily.

Implementation Technical Specialist

This is another great no-programming career for new graduates with a computer science degree.

An implementation specialist is the person who facilitates the smooth transition between disparate systems to make them work according to business rules. This is especially needed for software companies.

Companies who sell software to other companies usually need someone who can help their software sync seamlessly with their client’s existing processes or software systems that they already use.

Implementation specialists make sure all the software fields are mapped correctly, all the configurations are available and that the underlying infrastructure of the environments work well for implementating the new software.

An implementation specialist is different from an administrator in that the implementation specialist only works on the first implementation of a system. The administrator works with maintaining the system after it is first implemented.

Quality Assurance Specialist

The Quality Assurance Specialist or QA, is the person who tests the system to discover bugs, document those bugs and communicate them to get it fixed. This has usually no programming and is great because QAs work so closely with the software without having to code it!

The QA also makes sure the software meets certain quality standards and is usually working directly with the developers, implementation specialist, business analyst  and project managers to ensure the integrity and quality of the software is maintained.
