March’s Topic: The Hidden Debt Your Interviewer Is Trying to Pay (And How to Use It to Get Hired!)

Guest Speaker: Robert Snyder
Summary of what we’ll discuss:
Why are they really looking to hire a new BA?
A company hiring a Business Analyst has a debt of some kind they want you to help pay back. More than
merely “Tech Debt,” they’re “behind” on something better. Your job in (or before) the interview is to
convince them you help them pay back their debt.
What could this debt be? It is some combination of documentation debt, innovation debt, or
methodology/culture debt. They don’t see their kind of debt as Intelligence, Analysis, or Requirements.
They don’t see their debt as meetings, messaging, or standups.
What companies really need in a BA is someone who can reduce Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity ( VUCA)
Your interview advantage is recognizing the kind of debt the interviewer perceives that their organization has … and positioning yourself as the person who helps repay it.
You are not hired to only mechanically attend meetings, elicit requirements, manage stakeholders, or write user stories.
You are being hired to improve structure, clarity, and momentum.
When you understand that, you don’t sell tasks in the interview. You convey that you solve customer and culture problems in durable ways.
This is going to be a great discussion!
Don’t miss it!
